Homework, Monday August 31st


Math:  Lesson 8, Problem Set 1-30

Finish missing assignments to get a chance to enter your name for our monthly Friday drawing for two movie tickets. Due THURSDAY!!

I verbally gave all the students their missing assignments.    This month, I plan on giving you a note to remind you.  We will work on our character trait:  Responsibility.  Next month, it will be the student's job to frequently check in with me for missing work.  Thank you!!

Highlights: 

Where did August go?  We must be having fun!  This week is Open House.  It is on Wednesday, September 2nd, 6-8 pm.  The book fair will be going at that time for your convenience.  Dress down day is also on Wednesday, September 2nd.  Students, if you want to dress down on Wednesday you must pay $1.  Remember, it is for a good cause.  The funds are used towards classroom activities and supplies.

spelling bee

 

·   Make sure you have turned in all missing homework by Friday. If you have turned in all your homework assignments,  your name will be entered in our monthly drawing.  The drawing is Friday, Sept. 4th for two movie tickets.  Students, come see me for missing assignments.

·   Math Test on Friday.  Spelling and Vocabulary Test on Friday.  Study hard! 

·   Expect to have a great week!  Practice our Character Traits! 

 

 

Reading tip of the week...

Something to talk about:   Reading doesn’t have to stop when you put the book down. Talk to your child about books you’ve read and books you think he or she might enjoy.

HOMEWORK THURSDAY, AUGUST 27TH

1)  Read at least 30 minutes.
2)  Study Vocabulary and Spelling Words
3)  Write one paragraph about a hero.  The paragraph needs to be 7 to 9 sentences.  Be sure your paragraph includes an introduction, details/discussion, and a conclusion.  Use indentation, proper grammar.
4)  Write down 5 to 10 patriotic ideas for our upcoming class poster.  Posters will be displayed on Hero Night.

*  Entertainment Book Sale started August 24th!  Sale Ends September 9th

*  August 31 - Sept 4th - School Book Fair

*  September 2nd - Open House

*  September 2nd (Wednesday - Every 1st Wednesday of the month) - Dress Down by paying $1.       Proceeds go to classroom supplies or activities.

*  September 11 - Mid Quarter ends  

*  September 11 - Hero's Night at LPA Lakeside

HOMEWORK WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26TH

MATH - Lesson 6 Problem Set 1-30
WRITING - Re-do Lesson 3 "From fuzzy to focused".  Rewrite the passage using action verbs and describing words (adjectives).  Use your senses (touch, smell,etc) to make the passage more interesting!

Read, Read, Read!  Read at least 30 minutes a night!

Class Newsletter Week of August 24, 2009

  HOMEWORK THIS WEEK:

Math Lesson 5, 6, 7 Problem Set 1-30 for each lesson.   

Reading: This week’s story is “Cricket in the Road.” We focused on the elements of fiction: Examining Setting.   STUDY THE SPELLING AND DEFINITIONS OF VOCABULARY WORDS!  TEST WILL BE ON FRIDAY!

The students have these in their composition notebooks.  I will post the final set of words on Thursday.

CHARACTER COUNTS!

We believe in being trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and having good citizenship!  We practice these everyday in our class.  Parents, encourage your child to practice these in their communities.

 Entertainment Books

Entertainment Books on sale this year for $30 from August 24 – Sept. 9.  All the money we raise from fundraisers this year will go to buy new computers for ourcomputer lab and for the teacher  Every student will get a book. If you do not want to buy it, please see if you can sell it.   Those who sell one the first week will get a zoo animal. Top winners get special prizes and the top classes get special prizes.

                                        DRESS CODE

There is a new dress code for Fridays. Students are permitted to wear a La Paloma collard shirt or a uniform colored shirt with jeans, and a belt.  REMIND YOUR STUDENTS TO TUCK IN THEIR SHIRTS.  Thank you!

ZYLAR!

Zip Your Lips And Read! (ZYLAR)  Everyday, we have 10 to 15 minutes of silent reading.  Remind your child to bring a book to class to read during this block.
